Cersei and Oberyn Discuss Grief and Vengeance takes place in the Red Keep gardens, where Cersei and Oberyn find common ground in their grief and talk about the people they have lost.

The Scene Breakdown

The Cruel Joke of the Gods

Cersei meets Oberyn in the gardens, where he tells her he is writing a poem for his daughter Elia, named after his murdered sister. The mention of Elia leads Cersei to reflect on everything they have lost.

Despite being a legendary fighter and Queen for 19 years, neither of them could protect the people they loved most. Oberyn reminds her that they can still avenge them. Cersei remains certain that Tyrion murdered Joffrey.

A Mother's Concern for Myrcella

The conversation turns to Cersei's daughter Myrcella, who was sent to Dorne. Oberyn tries to reassure her by telling her how happy Myrcella was when he saw her playing in the Water Gardens.

Oberyn assures Cersei that little girls are safe in Dorne, but Cersei knows better. She tells him that little girls can be hurt anywhere. Before he returns to Sunspear, she asks him to deliver a custom-built ship to Myrcella as a nameday gift.
