History of Dubrovnik’s Trsteno Arboretum
Trsteno Arboretum was founded in the late 15th century by the Gučetić family, who asked sailors to bring exotic plants and seeds from their travels to enrich the estate.
The estate later expanded around a Renaissance villa, aqueduct, and Baroque fountain of Neptune, becoming one of the oldest arboretums in the Mediterranean.
Today, the arboretum is known for its historic gardens, sea views, and two enormous Oriental plane trees standing at the entrance, both over 500 years old.
