Gradac Park served as the setting for King Joffrey Baratheon’s wedding feast in Game of Thrones.

Located just outside Dubrovnik’s western walls, this relaxed cliffside park was transformed into the lavish outdoor setting of the infamous Purple Wedding.

The Coastal Walkways of Gradac Park

Gradac Park is a peaceful cliffside sanctuary filled with mature pine trees and sweeping views of the Adriatic Sea. Located just outside the historic walls, it provides a shaded green escape from the hot stone streets of the Old Town.

The network of stone avenues and dirt walkways follows the edge of the jagged cliffs, opening up views of Fort Lovrijenac and the western coastline. The dramatic natural terraces also served as an open air stage for the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Shaded benches and a historic fishpond are scattered throughout the grounds for relaxation. On the western slope, a stone staircase leads straight down to the quiet rocky shoreline of Danče Beach.

Current Status Notice (June 2026)

Temporary Closure: Gradac Park is undergoing heavy landscape restoration and structural infrastructure repairs. The entry gates, walkways, and the primary "Purple Wedding" feast terrace are completely fenced off with active heavy machinery on-site, making the entire park interior unavailable for public visits.

How to Find Gradac Park

Getting there: Exit the Old Town through Pile Gate and walk away from the city walls along the main road. When you reach Sesame Restaurant, turn left and take the small set of stairs uphill. Follow the path past the university building, keeping to the right for about 150 meters. This leads directly to the local parking area beside the entrance to Gradac Park and a viewpoint overlooking Fort Lovrijenac.

Visiting Gradac Park

  • Cost: Free
  • Access: Closed for public access due to ongoing reconstruction.
  • Best Time: Midday or afternoon. It serves as a perfect shaded escape when the open stone streets of the Old Town get too hot.
  • Nearby Beach: Danče Beach sits right below the park, offering far less crowded alternative to the mainstream swimming spots in Dubrovnik.
  • Tip: Visit during daylight hours for a quiet walk. In the evening, local university students gather here, shifting the vibe into a lively social scene.
