While fans know this bay as Blackwater Bay from Game of Thrones, locals have long called it Kolorina.
The name comes from the Italian word colore (color), dating back to the Republic of Ragusa, when this area was used for textile work and fabric dyeing. Small workshops once lined the shore, where fabrics were washed and treated with natural pigments.
That everyday craft gave the bay its name and a long-standing association with color — long before it appeared on screen as Blackwater Bay in King’s Landing.

How to Find Pile Bay
Pile Bay sits directly below Pile Square and can be reached from two different sides:
- The Lovrijenac Side: Head to the western side of Pile Square near the Tourist Information Centre. Follow the small stone steps heading south toward the sea. This path leads directly down to Pile Bay, the small waterfront area below Fort Lovrijenac.
- The City Walls Side: Stand in the square facing the main stone bridge that leads into the Old Town. On your left, take the path leading down into the city moat. Follow it down and walk right under the stone bridge to emerge at the waterfront.
Both routes take less than two minutes and bring you directly to the shore.
