History and Architecture of Rector's Palace
Dating back to the 14th century, the Rector’s Palace served as the administrative seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik). It contained the Rector’s private chambers, government offices, courtroom, and a prison.
The building combines Gothic and Renaissance architecture, with later Baroque restorations following several gunpowder explosions and damage from the 1667 earthquake. Today, it functions as Dubrovnik’s Cultural History Museum.
